Linked PUMS Sample, 1850-1860
Introduction
This sample contains information on 4,938 adult males who were located
in the manuscript schedules of the 1850 and 1860
Federal Population Censuses. The unit of observation is an individual
male. Each observation contains information on the male's characteristics
as recorded in the 1850 and 1860 census manuscripts, as well as information
on the male's family in both years, and his county, city, and town in both
years. The sample was created with the assistance of a grant from the National
Science Foundation (Grant No. SES-9309689) and is freely available below.
