Application Procedure
Perhaps the most important
part of the application is the essay that must be submitted as part of the
complete application. This essay
should include any personal and academic information that is relevant; reasons
for applying to the particular project; your interest, both intellectual and
personal, in the topic; qualifications to do the work of the project and make a
contribution to it; what you hope to accomplish by participation, including any
individual research and writing projects; and the relation of the study to your
teaching.
Competence in German is not
required for participation in the seminar; only a small number of "further
readings" in German are not available in English translation. Because we will in part be studying
German works in the seminar, however, reading knowledge of German will be taken
into account in the application process, and should be mentioned in the
application essay.
A completed application consists of three copies of the following collated items:
- printed copy of the completed application cover sheet
- a detailed resume, and
- an application essay
It should also include two letters of
recommendation. Please see NEH application
materials for more complete description of the requirements for the
application and letters of recommendation, and of the eligibility criteria.
The application should be
postmarked no later than March 1, 2007, and should be addressed as follows:
