Application Procedure

  

Perhaps the most important part of the application is the essay that must be submitted as part of the complete application.  This essay should include any personal and academic information that is relevant; reasons for applying to the particular project; your interest, both intellectual and personal, in the topic; qualifications to do the work of the project and make a contribution to it; what you hope to accomplish by participation, including any individual research and writing projects; and the relation of the study to your teaching.  

 

Competence in German is not required for participation in the seminar; only a small number of "further readings" in German are not available in English translation.  Because we will in part be studying German works in the seminar, however, reading knowledge of German will be taken into account in the application process, and should be mentioned in the application essay.

 

 

A completed application consists of three copies of the following collated items:

 

              -  printed copy of the completed application cover sheet

              -  a detailed resume, and

              -  an application essay

 

It should also include two letters of recommendation.  Please see NEH application materials for more complete description of the requirements for the application and letters of recommendation, and of the eligibility criteria.

 

The application should be postmarked no later than March 1, 2007, and should be addressed as follows:
