Changing Your Template

Changing the Color

WCAS offers several color options for faculty templates. See our previews for more information.

  1. In the Files window, double click style.css to open it. You should see two lines of code

    Screenshot: style sheet open in code view

  2. On the second line, change the color word (the default is "purple") to one of the following options: blue, bluegray, brown, gray, green, purple, or red. For example, if you want your template to be blue, that line should now read:

    @import "http://faculty.wcas.northwestern
    .edu/shared/v1/style/color/blue.css";

  3. Save the file.
  4. Upload it by highlighting style.css in the Files window and clicking the blue up arrow (Put/(blue up arrow))

Once style.css file is uploaded, visit your site in a web browser to review the change. You may need to hit refresh or reload on your browser (if that doesn't work, try holding shift and clicking refresh).

Changing the Layout

WCAS offers two layouts for faculty templates: a standard left-hand navigation and a tab-based navigation. See our previews for more information.

  1. In the Files window, double click style.css to open it. You should see two lines of code

    Screenshot: style sheet open in code view

  2. On the first line, change the layout word (the default is "leftnav") to either leftnav or tabs. For example, if you want your template to use the tab-based layout, that line should now read:

    @import "http://faculty.wcas.northwestern
    .edu/shared/v1/style/layout/tabs.css";

Changing from a Single Page Site to Navigation

When you created your first page during the initial set up, you may have created a single page site but now want a site with navigation. To change it:

  1. In the Files window, double click index.html to open it.
  2. In the Modify menu, under Templates, choose Apply Template to Page...
  3. Highlight Navigation and click Select
  4. Save and upload your page
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each file you've created that you want to display the navigation on

From here you should follow Adding New Pages, which also describes how to add links to navigation.

To switch from a page with navigation to one without, select Single Page in step 3 above.
