This project in progress is part of the exhibition, The Way of the Shovel: Art as Archaeology,
which will be presented at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art in November 2013.

This image is a representation of overlaying map fragments that show the evolving lakeshore and city
plan of the area of today's Museum of Contemporary Art. The red dot indicates Block 21, the location of
today's MCA, as it appeared in 1892. The smallest inset map from 1836 reveals that the ground was once underwater.

Shifting Grounds is an investigation of the history and transformation of Chicago's MCA and the grounds that it currently occupies.
